What is it?

Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase “scrip”, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards from each place of business that are used just like cash.  Most of them are the size of a credit card, although there are some paper certificates as well. The gift cards fit conveniently into your wallet. You can use Scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, gas, clothing, and other essentials, and every purchase of a Scrip card will earn revenue for St. Paul Church/Childcare.  The cards can be used for your own expenses or given as gifts.

How does Scrip create revenue money?

Our Scrip Program purchases the gift certificates/cards from local retailers, as well as a national supplier, at a discount price, and re-sells the scrip to families like yours for full face value. The discount - from two to twenty percent or more – is our organization’s revenue. The beauty of the program is that it costs you nothing extra! You pay for and receive full face value for the items you purchase.

Scrip is "shopping cart fundraising”

Scrip is a popular fundraiser because families don’t have to sell anything. Users of the program produce revenue by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip. Some retailers even let you pay off your store credit card bills with scrip.

How do I go about getting a Scrip Gift Card?

When you are at St. Paul’s Church, there is information on the scrip table in the fellowship hall. This packet contains all of the participating businesses that you can purchase a gift card from including the various denominations available. The percentage column, the one with the (%) sign, shows the amount that your gift card will return to St. Paul Church/Childcare. You can take it home and look it through. There are a number of scrip cards that we keep on hand for immediate pickup.  Others are ordered on Monday mornings and here by Wednesday.  Orders and payment can be brought in to the church office during the week.  Scrip is also sold after each service on Sunday by the scrip table in the fellowship hall.

Additional Notes

We would like to stress that this is a very easy and effective fund raiser.  We are not asking you to spend any extra money than normal.  If you shop at any of the participating retailers, please consider giving the program a chance.  It’s also a great way to buy gift cards for birthday or Christmas gifts without driving to the store.  Many retailers offer bonus discounts throughout the year, and especially before the holiday season, and these are wonderful to take advantage of for St. Paul Church, and get some of your shopping done at the same time!  If you have any questions, please call Kim Delwiche at 446-3251 (church office).
